Imanga Wamunyima, Jr. is a lawyer by profession. At age 29, he became the youngest elected member of the Zambian Parliament and the only representative from his political party – the Party of National Unity and Progress (PNUP). In the National Assembly, he currently serves as a member of the ‘Public Accounts Committee,’ a committee that exercises powers conferred upon it under article 117(5) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia. He is also the Vice-Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on ‘Privileges and Absences,’ chaired by the first Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

Hon. Imanga Wamunyima’s Goals

Mr. Wamunyima intends to increase access to health care by lobbying for the completion of the Nalolo District Hospital and an addition of 12 health posts in the first 5 years. This includes the procurement of ambulances. He also intends to lobby for the building of two additional secondary schools and upgrade existing schools. Imanga Wamunyima also aims to develop agriculture skills training centers and lobby for value, chain-driven investments into the agricultural sub-sector. Furthermore, he intends to purchase borehole drilling equipment and undertake an aggressive campaign to provide access to clean and safe water, lobby for an improved roads network, and increase opportunities for the youth and women to realize their dreams and pursue their destinies.

Accomplishments

A lawyer for the people

Working as a professional lawyer has given Imanga Wamunyima a unique perspective on the inner workings of business and community within the Nalolo district. Having served the community for many years, Mr. Wamunyima began to understand the community’s needs on a very personal level. Imanga brings these experiences to the table to help him identify and meet the needs of the Nalolo district community.

Member of Zambian Parliament

Mr. Wamunyima became a member of the Zambian Parliament at the age of 29, making him the youngest member to date. His unique position allowed him to advocate for the younger generations and provide unique solutions to local issues. Being the only member of the Party of National Unity and Progress (PNUP) in Parliament was not easy, but Imanga Wamunyima embraced this position to help his community.

Education

Imanga Wamunyima has a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and also holds a Certificate in Diplomatic Practice Protocol and Public Relations. Being certified in diplomacy and public relations has helped Mr. Wamunyima to assist the people of Zambia and the Nalolo district. Imanga’s background in law is a great addition to the Zambian Parliament, the National Assembly, and the Parliamentary Committee on ‘Privileges and Absences.’
